While we live in (and want to stay in) our happy, hazy bubble of cannabis users, we all have family members and friends who are still cannabis skeptics, and that\u2019s an opportunity for us to open up an informed dialogue.\u00a0Here’s how to talk to a cannabis skeptic in an educated and open manner. We hope this checklist makes it a little easier for you to approach (and find success with) this conversation, one we know isn\u2019t without its layered complexities.<\/p>\n

Educate yourself before you try to educate others.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is the first step in gaining the upper hand in any conversation or date. Speak from a place of knowledge backed with research and facts, vs. just opinion. That\u2019s the only way to debunk myths and outdated narratives. Understand how cannabis works within our system, what the different cannabinoids are, how to determine quality products, and what factors to consider when dosing. These basics are not only informative, but they also support your stance in cannabis as a healing plant for wellness. We’ve got our Cannabis 101<\/a> education to help you get started.<\/p>\n

Listen to and acknowledge their concerns and be honest with your experience.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Always listen to what their main concern is first, and think of a way to dispel that misconception or misinformation. Is it the stoner stigma? Or is it their fear that cannabis is dangerous or can harm them physically? Understanding where they\u2019re coming from and having a direct answer that is authentic and honest will help get to the heart of the issue faster.<\/p>\n

Introduce top-quality, credible products and their benefits.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Actually demonstrate how certain products can help specific ailments. We were able to turn a few opinions around by giving skeptics concrete examples of how cannabis can treat whatever is causing them pain or discomfort. For example, we showed our mother how the Cosmic View’s<\/a>\u00a0 Deep Down Athletic Balm<\/a> could naturally soothe her aching shoulders better than over-the-counter options. Modern packaging and familiar consumption methods such as topicals definitely help.<\/p>\n

Understand that opinions may not change overnight.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Don\u2019t be discouraged. You\u2019re a high-functioning adult and be proud of that. Cannabis isn\u2019t for everyone, and if you lead with the science and the healing properties of the plant, that\u2019s a great start in changing the narrative. Like anything, the more people talk about it, the more it becomes the norm.<\/p>\n

While your talk with a cannabis skeptic may not change opinions overnight, but it’s definitely a step in the right direction.<\/p>\n
